Why Do We Care About Fueling and Hydration?

We care about fueling and hydration during training and racing because we want to:

  • Provide fuel to our bodies
  • Maintain effort and resist fatigue (i.e. not slow down)
  • Maintain homeostasis and prevent overheating
  • Feel good when racing!

David Glover and Krista Schultz review the importance of hydration and fueling in the following videos.

Video 1: Hydrating for Triathlon Training and Racing

In this first video, David Glover, MS, CSCS discusses the importance of hydration during training and racing. He then reviews the symptoms of dehydration and shares strategies that you can use to improve drinking if you’re not drinking enough.

Video 2: Importance of Fueling for Triathlon Training and Racing

Carbohydrates, which are stored in the muscles and liver as glycogen, are a necessary fuel source that is stored by the body in limited quantities. In this video, David Glover, MS, CSCS reviews the importance of fueling before, during and after exercise.
